Dana Farber Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Event Raises over $9 million for Dana Farber Cancer Institute

On Sunday, October 5th, more than 9,000 participants came together to walk, jog, run,
and rollerblade the historic Boston Marathon route from Hopkinton to Boston. The event
was organized to raise vital funds supporting pediatric and adult cancer research and
clinical care at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. The day was marked by perfect New
England weather, creating an uplifting atmosphere for all involved. Along the route,
inspirational stories from patients and caregivers were displayed on mile markers,
providing encouragement and a reminder of the cause behind the event.
The Skin Cancer Champions Team walked with members of our community and Team
ReMERKable led by co-captains Dr. Ann Silk—an esteemed oncologist at Dana Farber
Cancer Institute and a Key Opinion Leader within the Skin Cancer Champions
community—and Dr. Manisha Thakuria, Director of the Merkel Cell Carcinoma Center of
Excellence at the Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center. Team ReMERKable succeeded
in raising $100,000 to support research efforts aimed at helping investigators better
understand Merkel Cell Carcinoma (MCC), a rare and aggressive cancer. Thank you to
the sponsors, first responders, volunteers and Dana Farber Cancer Institute staff who
supported this incredible event.
