Skin Cancer Champions is hosting a patient and caregiver panel aimed at providing a pharmaceutical leader with valuable insights into the patient experience as new drugs are brought to market to treat basal cell carcinoma (BCC). This event is scheduled for October 16th and will be moderated by Skin Cancer Champions, featuring community members who have first-hand experience with BCC, including those with multiple cancer types and advanced BCC. The panel will discuss aspects of the patient journey, including diagnosis, treatment plans and experiences, emotional and practical impacts, available resources, and advice for others. The session is designed to emphasize the importance of centering patients and caregivers in the development and delivery of new therapies.
Skin cancer is currently the most common cancer type in the United States. According to the American Cancer Society, over five million cases are expected to be diagnosed this year. The National Institute of Health reports that non-melanoma skin cancer primarily basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, account for 99% of these cases. Lesser-known forms include Merkel cell carcinoma, adnexal carcinoma, extramammary Paget's disease, sebaceous carcinoma, and dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans.
After the patient panel, we will continue the Blog by posting key insights and findings from the panel.
