Appropriate Use criteria for Mohs Micrographic Surgery for Patients and Caregivers: Pt 3

When treating Extramammary Paget’s Disease (EMPD), this overview contrasts MMS and WLE. MMS offers meticulous margin control with high cure rates and good cosmetic results, and AUC supports its use for EMPD across body sites—helpful because EMPD often has subtle, ill-defined borders. WLE remains common but may be more prone to incomplete removal and higher recurrence, making margins harder to achieve in some cases. While studies are limited, available data suggest MMS often provides better clearance and outcomes, which can translate into fewer complications and improved appearance.
